The Game:

The Phillies opened up the game with two runs after Utley hit his 21st
HR in the bottom of the first, scoring Shane Victorino, and spotting
Kendrick and the Phils a 2-0 lead. They continued to hit in the bottom
of the third, but Utley was out at the plate on a single from Howard to
end the inning. The next inning Jay Bruce came out and hit his third HR
since coming up. The Phillies answered quickly in the bottom of the 4th
however with 3 runs, coming off back to back HR’s by Feliz (who scored
in Burrell), and Coste’s single shot to left center. Kyle Kendrick
could not hold though, and over the next two innings gave up 3 runs on
Encarnacion’s solo shot, and a 2 run double off the bat of Adam Dunn.
The score after 6 innings was 5-4. It would stay that way, as Durbin
got out of the sixth for Kendrick, pitched a scoreless 7th, followed by
1-2-3 innings by Gordon and Lidge, who got his 14th save in as many
oppurtunities. 

What does this win mean?

The Phils take the opener of this 4 game series, their last one on this
homestand. They are now 6-1 on this homestand. Also coupled with the
Marlins loss yesterday, the Phillies now are 1.5 games ahead of the
Fish.
